Don't recognise a payment?
If you don’t recognise a payment, it could be because
- - A retailer used a different name to take money from your account
- - Another account holder on your joint account made the payment
- - A recurring payment (other than a Direct Debit or standing order) for an app or online service came out – it might have been taken after a free trial that you signed up for expired
- - You entered the wrong account details when making an online payment. If this happens, you’ll need to find out which bank the payment was made to. Find the bank’s sort code in the transaction details and search for it online, then contact them directly for help
If you still don’t recognise the transaction and think it might be fraudulent, get in touch with our fraud team by tapping ‘Direct call’ on the home screen of the Barclays app or calling the phone number on the back of your Barclays card.
If you recognise the debit card transaction but have a problem with it, find out what to do.

International payments
To make or receive an international payment, you need an IBAN (International Bank Account Number) and a SWIFT code.
Your IBAN doesn’t replace your sort code and account number, but it helps international banks identify your account for payments. You can find your IBAN on your statement or you can use our tool to get your IBAN for any of your Barclays accounts.
A SWIFT (or SWIFTBIC) code helps international banks identify which bank to send money to. For example, if an international bank is sending a payment to your Barclays UK account, they’ll need to know our SWIFT code, which is BUKBGB22.
It’s quick and easy to send money all over the world in the Barclays app and Online Banking. You can also send euros, US dollars and many other currencies. Sending money abroad is fee-free when you make the payment online or in your app. You can also go to a branch, but you’ll need to pay a £25 fee if you do.
After Brexit, we’ll still process payments to the European Economic Area (EEA). Take a look at our ‘International Payments’ page for more information on how you can send money to Europe and see our A to Z country list for information about transfer fees and cut-off times. Just to let you know, receiving banks might charge more for this service to adjust to the UK being outside of the EEA.

In Online Banking, you can set up transfers between your own accounts and schedule third-party payments such as standing orders, but only up to a certain amount.
There’s no daily limit for transfers between your Barclays accounts, but transfers to other accounts are limited to £250,000 per day. For transfers between your Barclays accounts in the app, the daily limit is also £250,000.
Transfers to a business account, even if you’re the account holder, are classed as third-party payments.
You can also use the app and Online Banking to pay your Barclaycard bill. If you've made a payment to Barclaycard in Online Banking before, the details will be on your payee list.
If you haven't, you'll need PINsentry (either the card reader or Mobile PINsentry) as well as the bank details for Barclaycard – you can find these on your debit or credit card.
You can find more information on transferring money below
Payments under £2,000
You can make a payment of up to £2,000 to someone new or someone you’ve paid before in the Barclays app and Online Banking. If you haven’t already, you can get the app or register for Online Banking.
Once you’ve registered for the app, you’ll be able to send money to someone you know, pay in a cheque and transfer cash between your accounts, so you don't need to come into a branch as often. For your security, we’ll apply a limit of £2,000 to the first in-app payment you make to someone you’ve not paid before.
You can make international payments for free in your app or Online Banking, but we charge £25 for international payments made in a branch.
You can also use the app and Online Banking to pay your Barclaycard bill. If you've made a payment to Barclaycard in Online Banking before, the details will be on your payee list. If you haven't, you'll need PINsentry – either the card reader or Mobile PINsentry – and the bank details for Barclaycard.
